What is Nature Connection?

We’ve never been more disconnected from nature. And we’ve never been more stressed.

Science shows that even brief moments of meaningful connection with nature can lower stress, boost our immune system and increase our sense of purpose and wellbeing.

But with the phones in our pockets always ready to provide a digital distraction, it's harder than ever to immerse ourselves in the natural environment our bodies crave.

Other Ways to Walk teaches you how to intentionally connect with nature, using evidence-based creative and mindful techniques to improve your mental health and reduce stress.

Connect with nature by getting our mindful walking prompt cards, joining the Nature Fix membership, or meeting at an in-person event.

Hi, I’m Rachel, the nature connection guide

I founded Other Ways to Walk in 2016 because I want to share the joy and magic of creative Nature Connection as a way to manage mental health and wellbeing.

After twenty years working in local, national and international galleries and museums, helping them develop their wellbeing offers for diverse communities it was time to take the work to new audiences. Other Ways to Walk grew out of my own need for emotional healing and passion for nature.

Since then I have developed a range of evidence-based resources and teachings to boost wellbeing, reduce stress, improve sleep, and boost the immune system. All my digital and printed resources are designed to be fun, attractive and appealing - but they work on a deeper level, to trigger the Relaxation Response to soothe the nervous system and work with your natural brain plasticity to build healthy and enduring behaviour changes.

All my resources are accessible, whether you are physically/emotionally disabled or an outdoors enthusiast. I have been all of these things in my life and that’s why I make sure my videos, journals and guidance cards are suitable for everyone.

I hope you’ll enjoy looking around the website - do get in touch if you have any questions about anything.
